His new book, A Single Roll of the Dice, is based on interviews with 70 high-ranking officials from the U.S., Iran, Europe, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Brazil—including the top American and Iranian negotiators. From this kaleidoscope of information, Parsi assembles all the pieces of the complex and often understood details of the administration’s efforts to end three decades of futility with Iran. Have U.S. diplomatic approaches to Iran under Obama failed? Was the Bush administration’s approach, relying heavily on the threat of military intervention, a better one? What is the best way to move toward a more positive relationship between the United States and Iran?<br><br>Trita Parsi is the founder and president of the National Iranian American Council and an expert on US-Iranian relations, Iranian foreign policy, and the geopolitics of the Middle East. He is the author of Treacherous Alliance: The Secret Dealings of Iran, Israel and the United States, for which he conducted more than 130 interviews with senior Israeli, Iranian and American decision-makers. Treacherous Alliance is the silver medal winner of the 2008 Arthur Ross Book Award from the Council on Foreign Relations. In 2010 Parsi received the Grawemeyer Award for Ideas Improving World Order. His articles on Middle East affairs have been published in a wide array of journals, including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Financial Times, Jane's Intelligence Review, the Nation, The American Conservative, and the Jerusalem Post, among others. He is a frequent guest on CNN, the PBS Newshour, NPR, the BBC, and Al Jazeera.<br><br>Aaron Schachter is currently Senior Editor for “The World,” co-produced by WGBH and the BBC. He joined “The World” in 2002 as a field correspondent in the Middle East where he covered the second Palestinian Intifada, reporting from Israel, the West Bank and Gaza. Schachter was in Iraq when the Hussein family was captured in 2003.
