</v:shape><![endif]--><![if !vml]><img width=200 height=134 src="cid:image002.png@01CD13D7.836D09B0" align=left hspace=12 alt=2011HolocaustCommemoration v:shapes="Picture_x0020_2"><![endif]><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Georgia","serif"'>Recalling all who perished during the Holocaust, this year’s program features an evening of music, candle lighting, and remembrance. <b>The guest speaker is Max Michelson.</b> Max Michelson was born in Riga, Latvia where he lived with his parents when that country was overrun by the German army in June, 1941. Together with the entire local Jewish community, he was forced into the Riga Ghetto. Following the “liquidation” of the Ghetto in December 1941, he went through a number of concentration camps and was liberated in Germany in May, 1945. The sole survivor of his family, Michelson came to this country after World War II. Upon completion of his education as an engineer in New York City, he settled in Massachusetts and is retired from Raytheon, where he was a consulting scientist working in the design of radar systems. Michelson is the author of <i>City of Life, City of Death, Memories of Riga</i>, which describes his childhood and youth in pre-World War II Latvia and tells of his experiences during the Holocaust.<br><br>Music will be provided by the <b>Cambridge Community Chorus</b>.<br><br>The program is free, open to all, and wheelchair accessible. It welcomes all communities of Cambridge – including children and adults and people of all faiths and traditions.<br><br><i>Temple Beth Shalom is located just off Broadway, at 8 Tremont St., between Hampshire St. and Broadway (Tremont St. is one block east of Prospect St., between Central and Inman squares).
