<p style="margin:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt"><span style="font-family:"Calibri,Bold","serif"">For decades, the few hundred residents of Las Pavas, a sustainable farming community in southern Bolivar, a department (province) in northern Colombia, have been forced to leave their land periodically to escape paramilitary violence. But the community members have always returned. </span><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif""><u></u><u></u></span></p>
<p style="margin:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif""><u></u> <u></u></span></p><p style="margin:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt"><span style="font-family:"Calibri,Bold","serif"">In 2006, as the community was organizing to claim its right to the land under Colombian law, Daabon Group, a large producer of palm oil for the international organic market, bought the community’s land from the absentee owner who had lost his claim to the land. In July 2009, the Colombian riot police forcefully removed the community of Las Pavas from the land. Nearly two years later, the community returned to their homes and their struggle to gain control over their land continues. </span><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif""><u></u><u></u></span></p>
