praised by E.O. Wilson as “one of the great environmentalists of our
time,” built his understanding of environmental issues from the ground
up, beginning with childhood experiences on his family’s farm. In his
just released memoir Breaking New Ground, he looks back over his
fifty year career studying the Earth’s ecosystems and proposing
solutions to looming environmental crises. What paths did he follow to
become the powerful and respected voice for environmental issues that
he is today? Has he ever felt like a voice, lost in the crowd of our
materialistic culture? How has he blended data and science with moral
conviction to speak convincingly on questions that take world leaders
and ordinary citizens far outside of their comfort zones?

Author of more than 20 major books alerting the public to possible environmental problems, Lester Brown
is widely recognized as the nation’s leading environmental writer. He
is the founder of the Worldwatch and Earth Policy institutes to analyze
global environmental issues and provide a vision and a road map for
achieving an environmentally sustainable economy. Brown has received
numerous prizes, including a MacArthur Fellowship, the U.N. Environment
Prize, Japan’s Blue Planet Prize and twenty-five honorary degrees. In
2012 he was inducted into the Earth Hall of Fame in Kyoto.

Tim Weiskel
is Research Director of Cambridge Climate Research Associates; he
currently teaches online courses on global climate change, environmental
ethics and environmental justice in the Sustainability and
Environmental Management (SEM) program through Harvard's Extension
School. He is a member of Cambridge Forum’s Board.

The program
is free and open to the public. Cambridge Forum is recorded and edited
