Corporate Accountability International, a powerhouse in challenging
corporate abuse for 35 years, is seeking an Associate Research Director to play
a lead role in providing the information, analysis, and strategic direction
necessary to develop and carry out our life-saving campaigns. As the
Associate Research Director, you will be responsible for gathering,
analyzing, and presenting information; fact-checking campaign and
fundraising materials; training and managing research staff; and
cultivating relationships with key allied organizations and experts.
Corporate Accountability International has been instrumental in challenging
egregious and life-threatening abuses in the food, water, and tobacco
industries. As the Associate Research Director, you will play a key role in
increasing the impact of these campaigns through strategic research and
campaign development. Recently, the organization partnered with allies and
members across the world to generate grassroots action and strategic
direction to halt the corporate-backed Trans-Pacific Partnership, often
referred to as “NAFTA on steroids.” We also worked with allies and
grassroots activists to stop a landmark water privatization contract in St.
Louis that would have allowed the water giant Veolia to profit off of the
city’s public water system.
As the Associate Research Director, you will report directly to the Deputy
Director: Campaigns & Research and work closely with our campaign directors
and senior research staff as well as staff across the organization. The
organization is made up of over 60 smart and driven staff and interns
working in a fast-paced and fun working environment with a network of
members and allies across the world.
*Major Responsibilities:*
· Play a lead role in the development and implementation of
strategies challenging the abuses of the private water industry, the fast
food industry, and Big Tobacco.
· Play a lead role in the coordination of research and
international policy development.
· Manage, train, and support one or more research staff member.
· Conceptualize and conduct research and analysis of transnational
corporate activities and industry trends.
· Monitor and analyze corporate responses and progress relative to
campaign goals and objectives.
· Play a lead role in fundraising activities, with a focus on
foundation fundraising.
· Produce written reports for internal use as well as public
distribution.
· Develop and build relationships with key organizational allies
and experts.
· Represent the organization as a spokesperson and advocate at
conferences, policy meetings, shareholders’ meetings, and expert gatherings.
· Ensure accuracy of all communications, campaign and fundraising
materials.
· Participate in organization-wide planning, fundraising,
recruitment and campaign activities.
*Minimum Qualifications*:
· Demonstrated commitment to corporate accountability and social
justice, with a global perspective.
· At least 5 years of experience in strategic corporate research,
organizing, and advocacy.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills.
· A background in non-profit fundraising.
· Knowledge of corporate accountability issues.
· Experience in fact-checking.
· Experience organizing and/or developing a campaign related to
food, water or tobacco a plus.
