Dispatches Against Displacement: Field Notes from San Francisco's Housing
Wars
Presentation by Author James Tracy and City Life/Vida Urbana's Lisa
Owens-Pinto

*Saturday, November 22, 2014, 6:30 p.m. encuentro5, 9A Hamilton Place,
Boston, MA 02108 <http://bit.ly/e5_address>* A housing activist in the Bay
Area since before Google existed,*James Tracy *excavates that history,
exploring the battle for urban space public housing residents fighting
austerity, militant housing takeovers, the vagaries of federal and state
housing policy, as well as showdowns against gentrification in the Mission
District. From these experiences, Dispatches Against Displacement draws out
a vision of what alternative urbanism might look like if our cities were
developed by and for the people who bring them to life and keep them
running. *Lisa Owens-Pinto* of Boston's City Life/Vida Urbana will discuss
her organization's and communities' pioneering work at keeping residents in
their homes and challenging the big banks in an era of corporate
globalization and gentrification. RSVP for the event and invite friends on
Facebook <https://www.facebook.com/events/265327030257774/>.
