*Saturday, April 8 from 1 to 2 at Park Street Station on the Boston

Forty one prisoners are left at Guantanamo, including 5 who have been
cleared for release.

Trump has been talking about adding more prisoners. This is the opposite
of what needs to happen.

Join us to raise the call to get rid of this center of indefinite detention
and torture, which is a stain on our reputation.

This demo is organized by the Committee for Peace and Human Rights and the
Committee for International Labor Defense.

Defense Efforts in the McCarthy Era
John Vago, decades-long activist for peace, democracy, labor, social
justice, against racism and imperialism, for socialism; in New York,
Philadelphia, and now in the Boston area.

A brief, cursory overview of the McCarthy era and the Cold War, including
some background on the domestic and international political situation up to
and in that era. I will include what I can recall regarding defense and
opposition efforts. It will all be brief; I am not an expert on the
subject. I will try to relate it to today's conditions by suggesting some
lessons learned. Hopefully others will add to the discussion.
