*Event description*:
The menace of mob lynching has become a major issue in India. Muslims,
Dalits, elderly women often happen to be the targets of these hate
crimes, which flourish in an overall environment of hate and
intimidation, the pretext for which is often, though not always, the
consumption of 'beef'. India has seen a spike in these hate crimes since
the coming of Narendra Modi government into power, amid a culture of
impunity whereby lynching accused are not only let out on bail, but also
defended by people holding elected office.

Shehla Rashid, who is one of the people at the forefront of the
resistance to lynching and hate crimes in India, will familiarize the
audience with many aspects of the issue and discuss strategies for
fighting the menace.
Dorotea Manuela will briefly discuss the lynchings of African Americans
and the related challenges faced in the US today.
