18 Years: Rally to End the War in Afghanistan

October 7 marks the 18th anniversary of the U.S. war in Afghanistan. Our
presence there is making a negotiated solution to the conflict impossible.
Now, it’s finally time to end this endless war.
U.S. forces intervened in 2001 to drive the Taliban from power and have
occupied Afghanistan ever since. After years of negotiations, Trump has
suddenly called off peace talks with the Taliban. And he has ordered
intensified strikes, which are resulting in increased civilian casualties,
such as the September 19 drone strike that killed at least 30 farmers in
Nangarhar province. The U.S. intervention in Afghanistan has taken one side
in a civil war that can only be solved by Afghans. U.S. troops should come
home now so that Afghans can work out their future together.”
Rep. Barbara Lee of California has filed a bill, HR.1274, which would
repeal the 2001 authorization for use of military force in Afghanistan.
The 2001 AUMF has also been used by successive administrations to justify
U.S. wars throughout the Middle East and Africa. Reps. Jim McGovern,
Katherine Clark, and Ayanna Pressley support repealing the authorization,
while the remaining Massachusetts members of Congress have not yet taken a
position.
Join us at Harvard Square subway entrance as we call for U.S. troops to
come home now!
