At the end of November and through the first week of December, 1999, over
50,000 people from across the world--union members, environmentalists,
artists, Indigenous rights groups, media collectives, students,
families--gathered in Seattle for a coordinated act of international
resistance, and ended up making the largest street action in U.S. history.
They came to physically obstruct corporate dominance, build democratic
alternatives to capitalist globalization and demand people's control over
jobs, economies and lives-- along with hundreds of thousands of others
around the planet. We mark that victory, while eyeing the ground that
remains to be covered...
