WE ARE LOSING 80 ACRES A DAY OF OPEN SPACE IN OUR
COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS. COMMUNITIES ARE SHUT
OUT OF DEVELOPMENT DECISIONS THAT CRITICALLY AFFECT
THEM. AND WE ARE LOSING OUR COMMONS THAT SHOULD BE IN
THE PUBLIC TRUST. HOW CAN WE:
PROTECT THE PUBLIC TRUST & ENVIRONMENT
STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY VOICES
MAKE DEVELOPMENT SUSTAINABLE & JUST
COME CELEBRATE the LAUNCH of an exciting NEW
PUBLICATION on REAL DEMOCRACY - The Rule of Property
-- with author Karen Coulter of the Program on
Corporations, Law and Democracy. Help build a citizen
movement to protect public land from private
exploitation, and make
development sustainable & just.
Coulter's pamphlet --hailed by Howard Zinn and Pete
Seeger--is a tool in the fight to protect public
property in the commons. She shows private interests
and corporations taking over the public domain and
tells how we can organize resistance to corporate
enclosures of the modern commons.
Joining Coulter will be JILL STEIN -- of the
Massachusetts Coalition of Healthy Communities (MCHC)
addressing the growing statewide coalition for
sustainable, just, community-guided development.
She'll describe recent grassroots successes thwarting
developer/state collaborations to sell-off state
surplus lands and to roll back community and
environmental protections in public-trust tidelands.
WARD MOREHOUSE -- co-founder of the 12-year-old
national POCLAD (the Program on Corporations, Law and
Democracy); Shays 2: Western Massachusetts Committee
on Corporations and Democracy; and Publisher of the
non-profit Apex Press http://www.apexpress.org that
published The Rule of Property and other Books to
Build Real Democracy: Egalitarian
and Sustainable.
Admission is free. Coulter will sign copies of The
Rule of Property at a special prepublication price of
$5 for one copy, $10 for three, and more discounts for
larger quantities. (List prices will be $6.95.)
