Widely respected for her depth and diversity, Kate Taylor will weave her
musical magic through the peace-themed program, Celebrating Women's Voices
for Peace. The evening will feature local women, young and old alike,
speaking out on the critical issues of the day. Taylor will be accompanied
by John Sheldon, a songwriter who has collaborated musically with the Taylor
family for decades and has several releases of his own, along with his
niece, Meredith Sheldon, a talented young singer currently touring with the
Ben Taylor Band.

Kate Taylor will share her rich blend of folk rock and blues, rooted in the
soul and gospel sounds of her southern upbringing as WAND, Women's Action
for New Directions, marks its 25th anniversary. In 1982, a group of women
inspired by Helen Caldicott, founded Women's Action for Nuclear Disarmament
in the Boston area.

Over the years, WAND has celebrated Mother's Day in its original spirit, as
a day for Peace. Inspired by Julia Ward Howe's vision in 1872 of Mother's
Day as a time when everyone (especially mothers) should come together to
speak out against war and work for peace, this year's benefit will be a mix
of audience participation, dramatizations, and musical performances.

Kate Taylor is thrilled to be getting back to making and performing music
after taking more than twenty years off to raise her family. Commenting on
her recent flurry of eclectic musical activity, Taylor summarized, "I love
to sing Rythym and Blues, rockabilly, Scottish ballads, Appalachian folk
music, rock 'n' roll and gospel too. It's all fun but it makes it hard to
classify my musical style into one genre. I am thrilled to be working with
my dear friends John Sheldon and Meredith Sheldon on this event. I'm
looking forward to it."

Celebrating Women's Voices for Peace will benefit the WAND Education Fund
(www.wandeducationfund.org). The mission of the Education Fund is to educate
the public and opinion leaders about the need to reduce violence and
militarism in society, and redirect excessive military spending to unmet
human and environmental needs.

More about Kate Taylor:
Kate Taylor was born in Boston and raised in North Carolina. Her dual
musical heritage is one she shares with brothers James, Livingston, Hugh,
and her late brother Alex. Kate's roots run deep in soul, gospel and the
rockabilly sounds of her southern upbringing and in the literate folk, pop
and Appalachian stylings that comprise the balance of her family's musical
legacy.

Fronting her own band at the age of fifteen, Kate Taylor signed her first
recording contract with Ahmet Ertegun at Atlantic/Cotillion Records at
nineteen. Her producer was Peter Asher. She later recorded two albums for
Columbia Records, "Kate Taylor" produced by James Taylor and "It's In There
and It's Got to Come Out" produced by Muscle Shoals/Nashville producer Barry
Beckett. Her 2004 album, "Beautiful Road," was co-produced by her late
husband Charlie Witham (who also wrote many of its songs) and bass player
Tony Garnier. Visit www.katetaylor.com for more information.

About John Sheldon:
John Sheldon is a songwriter/musician who began playing in Van Morrison's
band when he was only 17 and today writes songs recorded by James Taylor.
He has released ten CDs of his own music, including two children's albums.
Once called "one of the best guitarists of our time" by Ed Ward of National
Public Radio, John lives and works in western Massachusetts. More
information can be found at www.johnsheldon.com.

About Meredith Sheldon:
Meredith Sheldon graduated from Northampton High School in the spring of
2006. Since then, she has been on tour as a member of the Ben Taylor Band.
Currently she is recording with both Ben Taylor and her uncle, John Sheldon.
She is especially proud to perform at WAND's 25th Mother's Peace Day
Celebration as her grandmother, Sayre Sheldon, was the first president of
WAND and continues to serve on the National WAND Board of Directors.
