The Militant Labor Forum presents:
Venezuela, Cuba’s Socialist Revolution, and the World

Speaker: John Hawkins, Socialist Workers Party

Friday, June 22, 7:30 PM Militant Labor Forum Hall 13 Bennington Street, 2nd Floor, East Boston
Venezuela’s workers, peasants and youth are today advancing their struggles for improved living standards, land, and greater rights. As they do so their experience and confidence increase. Washington’s hostility towards them, in turn, remains unchanged. Meanwhile solidarity from socialist Cuba to Venezuela remains steady, with tens of thousands of volunteers helping to address pressing social problems.
In the course of struggle many are drawing the conclusion that the standoff between Venezuela’s toilers and imperialism will some day come to a head.
How can working people in Venezuela and their allies prepare for that coming showdown? What institutions and class forces inside and outside the country can they rely on in a fight to defend gains already won and extend them? Can working people in Venezuela learn from the Cuban toilers’ experience? How did Cuban workers and farmers transform their society? How do they continue to defend their conquests—90 miles from the most powerful empire on earth—nearly five decades later? Does there need to be a similar transformation in Venezuela?
Come to this week’s Militant Labor Forum and discuss these and other important questions that workers, farmers, and youth in Venezuela are grappling with today. And discuss how working people a youth in the United States can best demonstrate their solidarity with their class brothers and sisters fighting for a just society in Venezuela today.
