>Prize winning biographer Laurence Bergreen discusses his latest book Marco Polo: from Venice to Xanada at Cambridge Forum on Wednesday October 24 at 7:30 p.m. Written after he re-traced Marco Polo famous route across Mongolia and China, Bergreen re-tells the well known story with incredible new detail: a callow youth of seventeen, traveling with his father and uncle to Asia in 1271, incredibly gains the confidence of the world most powerful warrior, Kublai Khan, lives in his court for 24 years and returns to Venice with the latest inventions, great stories and wealth. What were the personal qualities that made Marco Polo the earliest bridge between east and west? At a time when Europeans perceived China as a land of untutored savages, how did Marco Polo break through these prejudices to become a trusted advisor to the highest level of Chinese society? How did his book–Travels, recorded by a fellow prisoner in the Genoese jail–come to have such a big impact on future historians and travelers?
