Brutal, urgent, devastating…demands to be seen as soon as possible and by as
many viewers as possible.
-*Manohla Dargis, The New York Times*

Using the exclusive photographs and first hand testimony of former US Marine
Captain Brian Steidle, THE DEVIL CAME ON HORSEBACK takes the viewer on an
emotionally charged journey into the heart of Darfur, Sudan, where the
Khartoum government is systematically ridding the province of its black
African citizens. As an official military observer, Steidle had access to
parts of the country that no journalist could penetrate. Ultimately
frustrated by the inaction of the international community, Steidle resigned
and returned to the US to expose the images and stories of lives
systematically destroyed. THE DEVIL CAME ON HORSEBACK allows us to witness
Steidle's transformation from soldier to observer to witness and, finally,
to passionate activist and moral hero.

Attendees are invited to a post-screening discussion of the film and the
current situation in Darfur with Gretchen Steidle Wallace and Denise Bell.
Ms. Steidle Wallace is the sister of Brian Steidle, is one of the film's
producers and also co-author of Brian's memoirs also titled The Devil Came
on Horseback. Ms. Bell has been the Amnesty Sudan Country Specialist since
2004, and has focused much effort on shareholder activism to influence
companies doing business in Sudan to play a constructive role in addressing
the Darfur humanitarian crisis.
