Hi folks,
Recently on June 3rd the Canadian Parliament passed an historic motion
to officially welcome war resisters! It now appears, however, that
the Conservative government may disregard the motion.
Iraq combat veteran turned courageous war resister, 25-year-old Sgt.
Corey Glass of the Indiana National Guard is still scheduled to be
deported July 10th.
We will ask that the Canadian government respect the democratic
decision of Parliament, the demonstrated opinion of the Canadian
citizenry, the view of the United Nations, and millions of Americans
by immediately implementing the motion and cease deportation
proceedings against Corey Glass and other current and future war
resisters.
Join Courage to Resist, Veterans for Peace, and Project Safe Haven at
Canadian Consulates across the United States.
We will meet at the back side of the Copley Square park at 2 PM on
Wednesday July 9. If you can, meet us at 11:30 with a clipboard or
hard surface and pen to get as many people as possible to sign the
enclosed letter in advance, which is enclosed as a PDF. If you cannot
come, mail your signed copy to me at:
Nate Goldshlag
37 Ottawa Rd.
Arlington, MA 02476
email: nateg at pobox.com
Those letters would have to go out to me in the next few days to get
to me in time.
We will then take these letters as a group at 2 PM up to the Canadian
Consulate at 3 Copley Place Suite 400. Afterwards, we will hand out a
flyer in front of Copley Place for a while asking the public to send
this letter to Prime Minister Harper and Minister Diane Finley.
If you cannot get the signed letter to me in time, you can always go
to the web site
http://www.couragetoresist.org/canada and sign it online. More paper
letters are better, though, in my opinion.
Or, if you like, you can send the letters to the following:
Prime Minister Stephen Harper
80 Wellington Street
Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0A2, CANADA
Fax: 613-941-6900
pm at pm.gc.ca
Minister of Citizenship & Immigration Diane Finley
Citizenship & Immigration Canada
Ottawa, Ontario K1A 1L1, CANADA
minister at cic.gc.ca
So who will join us on Wednesday 7/9 at 2 PM? Please let me know, and
publicize this far and wide.
Peace,
Nate Goldshlag
Coordinator, Smedley D. Butler Brigade Veterans For Peace
