Noon-1:30 p.m.
Community Change Library on Racism
14 Beacon Street, Room 605
Boston MA 02108
Please join Community Change staff and friends for a viewing and
discussion of the new documentary Traces of the Trade: A Story from
the Deep North by first-time filmmaker Katrina Browne. The
documentary follows Browne, who discovers her ancestors were the
largest slave-trading family in U.S. history, and nine fellow
descendants as they retrace the Triangle Trade from Bristol, Rhode
Island to Ghana and to Cuba. They uncover Northern Complicity in
slavery and tackle the challenges around racism and white privilege.
This documentary premiered on PBS in June, this year of the
bicentennial of the abolition of the slave trade, and will be
rebroadcast in the future. Two cousins from the film will show a 45
minute version of the film, answer questions and participate in our
discussion.
