The first night "Peace Fair" is going on from 1 to 7 PM despite the
weather. It will end with a special showing of the recent video
Soldiers of Conscience, presented recently on POV on PBS.
*Soldiers of Conscience *is a dramatic window on the dilemma of
individual U.S. soldiers in the current Iraq War – when their finger is
on the trigger and another human being is in their gun-sight. Made with
cooperation from the U.S. Army and narrated by Peter Coyote, the film
profiles eight American soldiers, including four who decide not to kill,
and become conscientious objectors; and four who believe in their duty
to kill if necessary. The film reveals all of them wrestling with the
morality of killing in war, not as a philosophical problem, but as
soldiers experience it - a split-second decision in combat that can
never be forgotten or undone.
The video includes more actual film footage showing the reality of the
Iraq war than is available anywhere else.

The video is available through the AFSC film library in Cambridge.

The Peace Fair itself will be on Dartmouth St near the corner of
Boylston. (Very near the old entrance to the Boston Public Library on
Dartmouth street.)
There will also be series of activities related to Energy, Justice and
Peace for 2009! (films, speakers, musicians and more)
from Noon until about 7 at Community Church. It's a great place to take
a break and relax for a while before you come back out to help with the
Peace Fair.
Hosted by Rev. ROBERT MURPHY
"Energy justice' and "environmental justice" are new themes that are being
raised in many places. Unitarian Universalists and others are connecting
economic justice and anti-oppression concerns to environmental protection
issues. Today, we'll give special attention to energy issues in
Massachusetts.
Rev. Robert Murphy is a former business agent for SEIU, Local 254, who is a
leader in the "energy justice" movement. Bob has worked on community health
and safety issues for many years and he now serves as the parish minister
for the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Falmouth, on Cape Cod.
