When: Wednesday, February 25th between 7 and 9 PM - please try to be
there early!

Why: The American worker and union organizers face steep legal and
employer-based obstacles during unionization drives. New legislation
called the Employee Free Choice Act would make it easier to
democratically form unions with majority-sign up and create stiffer
penalties for illegal union busting. Naturally, the bill is facing
massive opposition from the right-wing. In addition, it has weak
support from the new Democratic majority in Washington. Yet, the
passage of the Employee Free Choice Act is very possible. It will only
happen, however, through a massive push from the grassroots and public
education.

Speakers: Join the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA); Harris
Gruman, Massachusetts SEIU Political Director; DSA Vice-Chair; Dr.
Elaine Bernard, Executive Director of the Labor and Worklife Program at
Harvard Law School; and Steve Schnapp, Education Coordinator for United
for a Fair Economy.

This is an important event, whether you are an old friend of labor, new
to unions, or just curious. The goal of this presentation is to
familiarize yourself with the Employee Free Choice Act and its
components, such as majority sign-up, mandatory arbitration, and
increased fines against anti-union activity. Attendees of this event
will leave bettered prepared to speak with their friends and colleagues
about the bill and build grassroots pressure to push Congress and the
White House for its passage.

Please contact David Duhalde (david.duhalde at gmail.com) for more
information.

Event is free, but donations greatly appreciated. Light refreshments
will be served.

Co-sponsors: United for a Fair Economy and Mass. Jobs with Justice
