Hey MA Activists!


Are
you looking for something exciting and empowering to do this summer? 
Are you passionate about sustainability and community building?  Would
you be interested in working on projects to create collaborative local
solutions to climate change and environmental justice, while
concurrently learning valuable skills to promote building green
economies?  Are you a creative individual that’s interested in learning
new skills while sharing your own skills with others?
  
This
is your invitation to take part in a unique summer opportunity!  Summer
of Solutions 2009: Worcester is a two-month cooperative summer learning
experience which seeks to address environmental, social, and economic
issues in Worcester, Massachusetts.  Summer of Solutions will empower
participants ("solutionaries", if you will) to create real change by
providing them with the necessary tools and challenging them to apply
their skills hands-on.  Summer of Solutions 2009: Worcester will run
during the months of June and July.
  
This
program was inspired by Summer of Solutions 2008, held in Minnesota,
which was a huge success and spread into 15 locally-organized Summers
of Solutions programs across the country in 2009!
  
The
main focus of Summer of Solutions 2009 will be on creating healthy,
just communities and sustainable, green jobs. We will be working on
collaborative projects with local organizations.  Key projects include: 
·      Promotion of local, sustainable food production through community gardens
·      Community-building through home energy efficiency through weatherization “barn raisings”
·      The promotion of green jobs in the Main South community
·      Inclusion of creative spaces for workshops, skills- and idea-sharing, potlucks, and other community events
  
Summer
of Solutions is not only a great way to get involved in an incredible,
transformative summer experience; it is also a unique opportunity to
make a significant difference in today’s world.  Innovative approaches
from a network of vivacious, committed youths can help strengthen our
communities, preserve our climate, and produce some powerful answers to
many of today’s pressing problems.
