*Dear All,

You're invited to join activists in Harvard's clerical union (HUCTW),
members of
other campus unions, students, faculty and community residents as we protest
layoffs at Harvard. Please join us between 1-2 p.m. in front of Holyoke
Ctr.,
1350 Mass. Ave. in Harvard Square, this Thursday, June 4.

The University has just expressed its plan to lay off four HUCTW employees
at
Harvard's School of Design. Over thirty members of SEIU local 615, which
organizes
custodians and security officers, have been laid off during the past few
months. Hundreds of dining hall workers in UNITEHERE have been forced to
re-apply for their jobs, hot breakfasts have been cut in student dining
halls, while overtime has been eliminated for HUCTW members and other
workers. Harvard faculty and
non-union employees will get no raise this year.

Many believe big banks like Goldman Sachs and Citigroup now control the
Harvard Corporation, and are leading the charge to balance Harvard's books
on
the backs of those who can least afford it. Harvard made massive profits on
highly-speculative investments. Some of that huge windfall has evaporated,
but
the University has no need to cut the jobs of its lowest-paid workers!

Below are more actions against layoffs, also taking place this Thursday:

11-noon, flyering in front of Harvard's Holyoke Center, 1350 Mass. Ave.;

noon-12:30, join members of SEIU in a protest in front of Harvard's Science
Center (campus map:

).

In Solidarity,
