The Militant Labor Forum presents:

US Hands Off Iran!
Election
highlights
division in Iranian government

In the June 12 election in Iran current President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad received 63 percent of the vote to 34 percent for former prime
minister Mir Hossein Mousavi. Hundreds of thousands of Mousavi supporters have
protested claiming the elections were rigged.
The election is the latest sign of the deep fissures
in the Iranian capitalist class. A sizable section of the country’s rulers saw
Mousavi as the best candidate to reknit ties with Washington and end the
economic and financial sanctions on Iran. The Iranian rulers are also concerned
about the instability that could result from such moves. At the same time
Washington continues its imperialist campaign to oppose any development by Iran
of nuclear power or weapons.
Come to a
discussion on:
· Why working people should oppose any US threats
against Iran
· What is the character of the current government
in Iran
· What was the Iranian revolution of 1979 about and what is
the difference between that revolution and the government that was later
consolidated as the Islamic Republic
· Why working people have a stake in the fight for and the
expansion of democratic rights in Iran
