 Kamayani Bali Mahabal, is a clinical psychologist turned lawyer and a human
rights activist.   She was the coordinator of the criminal law cell of the
Indian Centre for Human Rights and Law (ICHRL).  She has worked with the
Coordination Committee on Disappearances in Punjab (CCDP).  The research led
to a 300 page interim report titled "Enforced Disappearances, Arbitrary
Executions and Secret Cremations".   Along with few like minded friends she
formed the human rights organisation ' AHSAAS' and became actively involved
in educating people in the field of human rights as well as providing legal
remedies and aid to victims of economic, social, psychological and physical
oppression in Punjab.  She has worked on honor killings in Asia, domestic
violence in the developing world, and the issue of sex selective abortions
and right to abortion.  She is  associated with various grassroots movements
and networks including Jan Swasthya Abhiyan, Medico Friends Circle and
International Human Rights Academy.
