SUMMER 2009, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: This past summer, some of our Global
Potential youth from Brooklyn and the Bronx participated in a
filmmaking workshop while they lived, worked, and shared cultural
experiences in Batey 8 and Batey Cuchilla in the Dominican Republic.
They worked hard through this process - filming interviews in swarms
of mosquitoes, waking up early to photograph roosters or heated domino
matches, and furiously transcribing interviews before the electricity
shut off. In the end, they created thoughtful and inspired
documentaries of their experiences, which will be shown for the first
time tonight in New York and in Boston
