REBUILDING HOMES: REBUILDING RELATIONSHIPS

Central Congregational Church
14 Titcomb Street, Newburyport, MA
Chilean arpillera Exhibit
Thursday, May 20 at 7:00 p.m.

To support families left homeless by the February 27th Earthquake.

Arpilleras are exquisitely detailed, hand-sewn, three dimensional textiles pictures, illustrating stories of the lives of women. These works of art originated in Chile, where women political prisoners who were held during Pinochet regime used them to camouflage notes sent to helpers outside.

Featuring:

* Music by Chilean folksinger Sergio Reyes
* Songs by the Central Church Women’s Gospel Choir
* Presentation by Professor Marjorie Agosin of Wellesley College, a poet, professor and author of several books about human rights in Chile.
* Chilean handcrafts will be available for sale

The event is part of a campaign “Lifting Up Hope” by the Massachusetts Conference of the United Church of Christ to help our ecumenical partner, the Pentecostal Church of Chile, rebuild homes for 300 families who were left homeless by the earthquake.

A freewill offering will be accepted.
