*Dear All,
Harvard University recently reported paying six top money managers almost
$27 million. At $26 *billion*, the "non-profit" University's endowment
exceeds the GDP of entire countries. Meanwhile it treats lower-paid workers
as disposable objects. More clerical workers in Widener Library have just
received layoff notices, and a shockingly high percentage of these
(two-thirds!!) are immigrants and people of color. More than 340 clerical
union jobs have been cut in the past year alone. Workers in Harvard's dining
halls, recently hit for the first time with a January break without work or
unemployment benefits, desperately need summer jobs. And Harvard continues
to exploit temps. Please join campus workers and our allies as we rally to
demand that Harvard create more union jobs! The clerical union's Agreement
expires in just over one month, so our action will also remind the
University that campus workers deserve an good contract with on concessions.
The picket will take place Wed., May 26 at 5 p.m., at Harvard's Holyoke
Center (1350 Mass. Ave. Cambridge, 1 block from Harvard MBTA).
