Maine Filmmaker Recounts Israel's Attack Against Humanitarian Aid Trip
to Gaza
Friday June 11th 7pm Sacred Heart/St. Dominic Parish
Hall,
80 Sherman St.Portland Maine
[Parking one block up at
Cumberland and Mellen]
Scott Hamann will be speaking on Friday
June 11th at Sacred Heart/St. Dominic Parish Hall in Portland about his
personal experience aboard Challenger 1, part of the Freedom Flotilla
that was illegally attacked in international waters last week by the
Israeli Navy. The Freedom Flotilla carried over 10,000 tons of
humanitarian relief aid for Gaza, with the goal of breaking through the
blockade imposed on Gaza by the Israeli government as a mechanism of
'collective punishment.'
At dawn on Monday May 31st, the Israeli
Navy attacked and boarded all boats from the Freedom Flotilla including
Challenger 1 with Hamann aboard. Israel used deadly force on the Mavi
Marmara, which carried hundreds
of Turkish civilians and hundreds of people from various countries. 9
passengers were killed, and at least 3 reporters were apparently
targeted for taking photos of the attack.
Hamann will speak about
his personal experience on Challenger 1, the illegality of Israel's
actions, his detainment in Be'er Sheva Prison, and about the shameless
brutality of the Israeli police and Navy that he witnessed firsthand.
