THE COMMUNITY CHURCH OF BOSTON
SUNDAY SPEAKERS FORUM presents...

Sustainable Agriculture - Here & Abroad (part 1)
Members of THE FOOD PROJECT
"Youth. Food. Community."

Founded some 20 years ago, the Food Project grew out of the recognition that
young people and adults were not connected to the land or, often, to each
other. Suburban and city youth both felt isolated from their surroundings,
because local opportunities for meaningful work were limited. The first
growing seasons were on land leased from Drumlin Farm in Lincoln.

Soon the Project partnered with residents of Roxbury and began to clear
vacant, undeveloped lots for cultivation. Eventually, a new site on the
North Shore was launched, using the same sustainable agricultural
techniques. The Project now employs over 100 young people and 25 full-time
staff, with nearly 2000 volunteers annually. It grows a quarter million
pounds of chemical-pesticide-free food each season for charitable donation,
subsidized sale at farmers' markets and youth-driven enterprises.
