I'm writing to let you know about an opportunity to work with Gay & Lesbian
Advocates & Defenders as a Special Events/Development Intern. This is an
amazing learning experience and we're hoping to find a student who shares
our passion for social change and has a willingness to learn more about
development and event planning. The description is below, anyone interested

*Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD)* is New England’s leading legal
rights organization dedicated to ending discrimination based on sexual
orientation, HIV status and gender identity and expression.
The Development Department is looking for an intern to help raise the funds
that enable GLAD to meet our mission. *This is a great opportunity for
someone who wants to have an impact on these issues in a very practical
way. Join us and learn about or gain further experience in special events
fundraising and non-profit development*.
*The special events intern’s responsibilities/opportunities would include:*
§ Coordinate outreach to auction donors and event sponsors through
mailings, telephone solicitations, and emails
§ Execute silent auction composed of 180 items with an overall value over
$40,000 including onsite coordination of event volunteers.
§ Assist with sponsorship solicitation and donor acknowledgement mailings.
§ Research donor prospects for the *Transgender Family Law* book.
§ Collect RSVPs for GLADHours and add to donor database (Raiser’s Edge).
§ Research and update corporate sponsorship contacts in donor database
(Raiser’s Edge).
§ Provide registration support at GLAD’s regional events and Equal
Justice Council briefings.
§ Accompany staff on regional event site visits.
§ Prepare Spirit of Justice Award Dinner corporate sponsorship packets.
§ Pre-event recruitment and coordination of volunteers.
§ Assist with annual event budget prep.
§ Perform other tasks as needed to carry out fundraising objectives and
priorities for entire organization.
The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to work in non-profit
development and preferably some background in an administrative office
setting. The ability to take direction, show initiative and follow through
in a dynamic environment is a must. Excellent attention to detail and a
willingness to ask questions are also critical.
*Ongoing training and supervision will be provided. Dress code is casual.*
Hours
Intern positions are 20-40 hours a week for 6 months.10am-6pm, occasional
evenings. Flexible schedule. Dependability is a must.
*Stipend*
Commit to 40 hours a week for a minimum of 6 months and receive a $2,400
stipend. Monthly T pass will be reimbursed for interns that commit to 20+
hours per week.
