Preventing War with Iran

with Shelagh Foreman and John Maher

of Massachusetts Peace Action

Set your Internet Browser to OBR.FM.

Over the past few months there has been escalating talk about the
possibility of a U.S. war with Iran. Israel, the U.S.'s closest ally in the
region, is threatening attacks which could pull us into war. President Obama
and the Republican presidential candidates are saying that "all options are
on the table" to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. This is
despite the fact that top U.S. intelligence officials have made consistent
statements that Iran does not have a nuclear weapons program nor is there
evidence they intend to establish one.

Massachusetts Peace Action ( <http://masspeaceaction.org/>
http://masspeaceaction.org/) and other peace groups have been working to
prevent our engagement in another pointless, disastrous war. They placed
<http://masspeaceaction.org/1710> ads in the MBTA subways and buses, and
have a
<http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/161/c/3952/p/dia/action/public/?action
_KEY=9263> petition campaign, as well.

Mass Peace Action board members Shelagh Foreman and John Maher will talk to
us about why sabre-rattling is the wrong approach to dealing with Iran, and
what we need to do to try fight further military escalation in the Middle
East.

Mass Peace Action's Program Director, Shelagh Foreman, has been on the
forefront of peace and justice issues for many years. She was a founding
member of Mass Freeze, the statewide nuclear freeze organization, which
merged with SANE to form Massachusetts Peace Action. She has worked
consistently on nuclear disarmament and focused on bringing Peace Action's
message to our elected officials. She represents MAPA on the Political
Committee of Mass Alliance and is a core group member of 20/20 Action.

John Maher is on the Board of Mass Peace Action. He was an organizer for SDS
in the 1960's. He worked in a factory, taught in Cambridge and Somerville
public schools, was director of education and outreach for Oxfam, and was
executive director of Neighbor to Neighbor, which works for progressive
working class power in Massachusetts politics. He is on the steering
committee of the Eastern Massachusetts campaign to Fund Our Communities /
Cut Military Spending 25%. He recently published Learning from the Sixties:
Memoir of an Organizer.

Mass Peace Action is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization working to
develop the sustained political power to foster a more just and peaceful
U.S. foreign policy.
