Alternatives for Community & Environment (ACE) seeks a full-time
Development Director.

 Based in Roxbury, ACE is 501c3 environmental justice organization. ACE
organizes residents, provides legal/technical support to community groups,
develops youth leadership, and runs campaigns on critical environmental
justice issues. *The Development Director will lead the planning and
implementation of our development strategies and build a broad base of
support for ACE’s growth in line with our organizational goals, values and
strategic direction.* The Development Director reports to the Executive
Director.



ACE has a vision of maintaining an independent political voice and range of
action that is led by our members from low income communities and
communities of color.  We want to be “owned” by the communities we work in,
which means that *our long term goal is that the communities where we work
provide significant financial support to ACE, rather than rely on
foundations for the majority of our funds. *Our grassroots fundraising
activities are designed to resist the institutionalized racism and classism
that often exists with funding from foundations and wealthy individuals. ACE
does not take funds from corporations or companies that are contradictory
to our mission, which is to build the power of communities of color and low
income communities in Massachusetts to eradicate environmental racism and
classism, create healthy, sustainable communities, and achieve
environmental justice.**
*Primary Responsibilities:* ·         Contribute to the organization’s
mission and help to create a sustainable and healthy organizational culture.
·         Provide overall leadership for revenue generation, including
foundation and grassroots fundraising. ·         Identify opportunities for
board, staff and members to get involved in revenue generation, including
building and maintaining relationships with key funders and donors. ·
In partnership with communications coordinator, create materials to promote
ACE and train members to participate in ACE’s fundraising activities. ·
Achieve annual revenue targets across all income categories. ·         In
partnership with Communications Coordinator, carry out direct mail appeals
and manage online giving. ·         Oversee all aspects of foundation
fundraising, including research, cultivation and stewardship as well as
proposal writing, budgets and grant reporting. Develop and customize
letters of inquiry, proposals, narrative, and financial reports.

   - Work in partnership with Executive Director and program directors to
   craft a comprehensive revenue strategy resulting in increased revenue and
   grant opportunities.
   - Identify new potential foundation donors via multiple sources.
   - Process and properly allocate checks and donations.
   - Maintain tracking system to keep executive director apprised of
   proposed foundation activity and cash projections.
   - Ensure that grants and contracts are tracked and managed, agreements
   are fulfilled and deadlines are met on time. (This responsibility is shared
   with other staff)

·         Coordinate fundraising events. (Including one major event
annually) ·         Supervise the Resource Organizer (A new position
projected to begin in 1st quarter of 2013) who will carry out ACE’s
grassroots and individual fundraising activities along with Development
Director. ·         Manage the database; run queries, produce reports for
analysis, prepare mailing lists, and train volunteers and staff. ·         Work
with the Executive Director on development program’s internal budget. ·
Maintain and expand ACE’s major donor base with parlor meetings throughout
the year. ·         Support the formation of a Development Committee of the
Board. ·         Manage ACE’s membership in Community Works, a cooperative
fundraising effort among community-based and social justice oriented
organizations. *Qualifications:*

   - Understanding and commitment to social/environmental justice and community
   organizing
   - At least 4-6 years proven track record in development including
   foundation and individual giving, donor prospecting, organizational
   sponsorship, event planning, grant management and donor management
   - Understands and committed to building a grassroots fundraising culture
   - Skill in face to face financial solicitation. Ability to pick up the
   phone and make a pitch
   - Excellent writing, communication and collaboration skills
   - Ability for engaging, supporting, coordinating, and motivating staff
   and volunteers
   - Solid database experience
   - Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications especially Word and
   Excel
   - Familiarity with online fundraising platforms
   - Budget management skills
   - Able to problem solve, hold others accountable, practice direct
   communication, and support others to do the same
   - Job requires occasionally working on weekends and evenings

   - Comfort with public speaking
   - Multi-lingual
   - *“-A-Thon” *event management
   - Page layout software skills
   - Advanced understanding of EBase Filemaker Pro



*This is a fulltime position based in our office in Roxbury. * Salary is
$45,000 - $50,000, depending on experience. ACE offers generous health,
vacation and retirement benefits.
