  Subject: March 14 Film Screening: "They Chose China"

The China Study Group will show the one-hour documentary, "They Chose  
China," followed by a discussion.  The film tells the story of the 23  
American soldiers in the Korean War who were captured and became POWs  
in Chinese prison camps.  As the war ended the 23 declined  
repatriation to the US and decided to live in China instead.  Branded  
at the time in the US as brainwashed turncoats, the group were  
actually motivated by their belief in peace, justice and equality and  
felt they would be persecuted during the McCarthy period back in the  
US.  The film provides a fascinating and revealing glimpse of a  
little known incident of Cold War history.
