This Thursday, September 26, the City of Cambridge is hosting a
community meeting to discuss a draft surveillance-camera policy
proposed by the Cambridge Police Department. The draft policy poses
significant risks to privacy. It would:
- Use "preventing terrorism" as a justification, when there's no
evidence that cameras like this deter terrorism, or even that they deter
- Allow other cities' police to monitor public activity on Cambridge streets
- Provide few protections for how the data will be stored or used
Please join Digital Fourth <http://www.warrantless.org> and the ACLU of
Massachusetts <http://www.aclum.org> at the meeting on Thursday, Sept.
26 at 6pm. We'd love it if you could prepare your own testimony, or
simply express your concerns about government surveillance on public
streets in your neighborhoods. You can also submit comments online
Cambridge City Manager Richard Rossi and the Cambridge City Council.
Here's our prior coverage of the issue:
We hope to see you there; please let us know
<mailto:alex at warrantless.org> whether you can make it!
