The Invention of the White Race and the Importance of Anti-Racism:

A Discussion with Jeffrey B. Perry

        Please join the Center for Marxist Education for a discussion with
independent scholar Jeffrey B. Perry, the leading authority on the
path-breaking anti-racist work of Theodore Allen and Hubert Harrison. Perry
will be presenting his research and helping to kick off a discussion about
the origins of modern racism, as well as the importance of anti-racism to
contemporary working-class political struggles. His work focuses on the
role of white supremacy as a retardant to progressive social change and on
the centrality of struggle against white supremacy to progressive social
change.

For almost forty years Perry has been active in the working class movement
as a rank-and-file worker and as a union shop steward, officer, editor, and
retiree. He has also been involved in domestic and international social
justice issues including affirmative action, union democracy, and
anti-apartheid, anti-war, and anti-imperialist work.
