Pat Tillman never thought of himself as a hero. His choice to leave a
multimillion-dollar football contract and join the military wasn't done
for any reason other than he felt it was the right thing to do. The fact
that the military manipulated his tragic death is unfathomable and
thoroughly explored in Amir Bar-Lev's riveting and enraging documentary.
Pat Tillman gave up his professional football career to join the Army
Rangers in 2002 -- and became an instant symbol of patriotic fervor. But
the truth about Pat Tillman is far more complex, and ultimately far more
heroic, than the caricature created by the media.
When the US tried to turn his death into propaganda, they took on the
wrong family. From her home in Santa Cruz mountains, Pat's mother,
Dannie Tillman, led the family's crusade to reveal the truth beneath the
mythology of their son's life and death. "/*The Tillman Story*/" shines
a light on the shady aftermath of Pat's death and calls to task the
entire chain of command.
/"The deception surrounding this case was an insult to the family: but
more importantly, its primary purpose was to deceive a whole nation. We
say these things with disappointment and sadness for our country. Once
again, we have been used as props in a Pentagon public relations
exercise./" ~ Kevin Tillman, brother
"/Tillman was upset about [the US war on Iraq] and voiced his
disapproval. He thought it was a mistake. He thought it was going to be
a disaster. And, in the Army, you're not supposed to talk about that.
You're not supposed to talk politics, and Pat didn't shut up. He told
everyone this was illegal as hell./"
~ Jon Krakauer, best selling author of _Into Thin Air__

Why should YOU care? It's YOUR money that pays for US/Israeli wars - on
Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Palestine, Libya. Syria, Iran, So America, etc
etc - for billionaire bailouts, for ever more ubiquitous US prisons, for
the loss of liberty and civil rights...
