*"The Enduring Legacy of the Kwangju Uprising" A Talk by George Kastiaficas *
Kwangju Uprising was mass mobilization against the South Korean military
government that took place in the southern city of Kwangju between May
18 and 27, 1980. Nearly a quarter of a million people participated in
the rebellion. Although it was brutally repressed and initially
unsuccessful in bringing about democratic reform in South Korea, it is
considered to have been a pivotal moment in the South Korean struggle
for democracy.

George Katsiaficas is International Coordinator of the May 18th
Institute at Chonnam National University and author/editor of numerous
books on international social movements including South Korean Democracy
-- Legacy of the Gwangju Uprising and Asia's Unknown Uprisings: South
Korean Social Movements Since World War 2).

George is moving out of the area soon and this may been you last chance
to see him for a while.
