Please join us for a conversation with former political prisoner Daniel
McGowan in Providence, RI on Friday, December 16th.

Daniel is an environmental and social justice activist from New York City
who was targeted by the federal government and convicted of actions claimed
by the Earth Liberation Front during a coordinated, multi-state sweep of
activists that came to be known as the "Green Scare" (
http://cldc.org/organizing resources/green-scare/). He was sentenced to 7
years with a terrorism enhancement and spent much of that time in the
infamous "Communication Management Units".

While imprisoned Daniel challenged the prison system's restrictions on the
First Amendment rights of prisoners (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/daniel
 mcgowan/communication-management-units_b_2944580.html).

Daniel's case, and the federal government’s rush to prosecute environmental
activism as a form of terrorism, were explored in the Oscar-nominated
documentary, If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front (
http://ifatreefallsfilm.com/).
