Witness for Peace New England
is thrilled to announce our 2019 Fall Speaking Tour, "An Economy Under
Siege: Building Socialism and Solidarity with Cuba Today," featuring
Cuban economist Dr. Jourdy James Heredia, subdirector of the Global
Economy Research Center (CIEM) in Havana.

On this national tour, Dr. James will speak about the current economic
situation in Cuba; historical and contemporary impacts of the economic,
commercial and financial blockade imposed by the government of the
United States on Cuba; advances Cuba has made in food security,
understood in a comparative and contextualized lens; and ongoing
challenges in the construction of Cuban socialism given perennially
hostile external circumstances.

Location: Harvard University, Library Theater in McKinlock Hall
(Leverett House) 25 Mill Street, Cambridge MA 02138

*Síntesis *is one of the emblematic ensembles of contemporary Cuban
music, due to the richness, variety and conceptual structure of their
sonic style. Sintesis music pioneered the fusion of Afro-Cuban musical
traditions with contemporary jazz and rock in the late 1970s. They are
among the most recognized and popular musical groups of the island.
Sintesis' albums ANCESTROS I, II and III are part of the Cuban
rock-fusion classics.

*Síntesis *will be sharing with the students their creative process to
fuse and integrate Afro-Cuban musical traditions with various styles of
music including Jazz, Funk, R&B, Rock and other music genres. This will
be a unique opportunity for the students interested in music making and
production to learn from one of Cuba's leading group working within this
musical boundaries.

This Music Workshop will be held in Spanish with consecutive translation
and moderated by Yosvany Terry, Senior Lecturer on Music and Director of
