*USM Boston presents Backyard Cinema Series: "Smash Colonial Violence!"*
An 8-week series of political education documentaries & presentations
about black power, reparations, colonialism and revolutionary African
resistance. Hosted by the Boston branch of the Uhuru Solidarity
Movement, the organization of white people under the leadership of the
African People’s Socialist Party organizing in the white community for
reparations to African people.
Fundraiser for the Black Power Blueprint, a black-led economic
development program building community centers, housing, gardens, a food
economy and the African Independence Workforce Program to train African
people being released from colonial prisons into becoming skilled

PART 1 Friday July 10th, 8-10pm
Screening of “Born of the People - Malcolm X and Ho Chi Minh” (1975) and
“The Battle of St. Petersburg” (1998)
Historical footage of the revolutionary leader of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh;
and of the black power revolutionary Malcolm X. Back to back with a
documentary on the 1996 rebellions in St. Petersburg, FL after 18 year
old black teenager Tyron Lewis was shot by police.
PART 2 Friday July 17th, 8-10:30 pm
Justice & Reparations for the Murder of George Floyd!
White people must go beyond protest and organize to support black power
and reparations under the leadership of the African People’s Socialist
Party. USM zoom webinar held 6/1/20 featuring Chairman Omali Yeshitela
and Director Akilé Anai of the APSP and Chairwoman Penny Hess of the
African People’s Solidarity Committee.
PART 3 Friday July 24th, 8-10pm
Screening of “Lumumba” (2001)
Based on the true story of Patrice Lumumba, the first Prime Minister of
the newly independent Democratic Republic of Congo. An anti-colonial
leader of African people to liberate Congo from the clutches of
imperialist Belgium. On January 17, 1961 he was assassinated by a firing
squad in execution-style by the Belgian and US military, which was
covered up for decades. Directed by Raoul Peck, in French with English
subtitles.

Defund the Police and Pay Reparations to the African Community
Why white people must support the black-led campaign “Black Community
Control of the Police”. USM webinar from 6/14/20 featuring Director
Akilé Anai (APSP), Chairwoman Penny Hess (APSC), and Chair Jesse Nevel
(USM). Discussion on how it is the banks which fund the police, and
USM’s campaign “Make Wall Street Pay Reparations” to dismante the
colonial police, the occupying military force in the black community.
PART 6 Friday August 14, 8-10pm
Screening of “Concerning Violence” (2001)
Based on the book “Wretched of the Earth” written by Frantz Fanon.
Narrated by Ms. Lauryn Hill. Documentary directed by Göran Hugo Olsson

Screening of “The Spook Who Sat by the Door” (1978)
Based on the fictional action crime–drama novel by Sam Greenlee. Black
freedom fighter Dan Freeman receives military training in the CIA, and
uses his new skills to lead an underground resistance in Chicago for his
love of black people to be free. Directed by Ivan Dixon.
