A Latin-American style open mic...
Celebrating our Pachamama demanding the end of wars
Representing at least three-quarters of global military presence, the US
armed forces are by far the biggest military polluters. Figures are sparse,
but they are estimated to have bought approximately 269,230 barrels of oil
a day in 2017 – a figure racking up to about 100 million barrels that year.

Water supply in the war zones has been contaminated by oil from military
vehicles and depleted uranium from ammunition. Along with the degradation
of the natural resources in countries at war, and a radical destruction of
forest cover, the animal and bird
populations have also been adversely affected. All too often,
people have been displaced from their lands and homes. Military activity
uses solvents, fuels and other toxic chemicals which can leach toxins into
the environment that remain there for decades and even centuries.
Furthermore, heavy military vehicles cause dam-
age to soil and infrastructure.

During the 1960s, hundreds of thousands of young Americans rejected the
stable, comfortable middle-class life their parents had built in the years
after World War II, driven instead by a spirit of rebellion that led to the
founding of Earth Day, April 22, which would leave a lasting impact on the
country.

In December 2010 the Bolivian Parliament passed the Rights of Mother Earth
Act (La Ley de Derechos de la Madre Tierra). The Act gives Mother Earth a
legal personality and recognizes that She has rights that the Bolivian
state, society, and individuals have an obligation and duty to respect.
This was the first law in the world
that gave legal personhood to Mother Earth and invested Her with legal
rights.
