Senator Eldridge talks on government and climate change
Thursday February 20, 7-9 PM, at Peace Lutheran Church, Wayland
What do the politicians who want to fight climate change need from us, the public and the activists? Why is it so difficult to change "politics as usual"?
On Thursday, February 20, we're going to ask State Senator Jamie Eldridge, who represents the Middlesex & Worcester Senatorial District, which includes Acton, Ayer, Boxborough, Harvard, Hudson, Littleton, Maynard, Northborough (Precinct 3), Shirley, Southborough, Stow, Sudbur (-Precincts 2 and 3), Westborough, the city of Marlborough and the Devens community.
Senator Eldridge is known for his climate leadership and the group he will be addressing is already well-informed and well-versed in climate action. This will not be a political speech, but a strategy session. Among the questions to be addressed are: What is the status of current climate-change related bills in the Massachusetts Legislature (divestment; carbon tax, etc.)? What will it take to make them law? What motivates legislators to move forward on a bill? Given the urgency of climate change, what is the best strategy for success? How does Massachusetts enhance its leadership role on climate for the country? How do we connect our work with the rest of the world?
There will be a substantial Q&A, so bring your own questions!
This talk takes place during a meeting of the 350MA MetroWest Node, which meets every first and third Thursdays of the month. Metrowest at 350MA.org
