Description:

Part of the Jerry Wurf Memorial Forum that honors one of the nation's most distinguished labor leaders, William Lucy's presentation will explain the sanitation workers' strike in 1968 that brought Martin Luther King to Memphis where he was assassinated. Lucy was a prominent labor organizer during the Memphis strike and soon became the founding president of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists. Mainstream media and commentators frequently ignore the centrality of labor struggles and economic justice in MLK's legacy.
