[act-ma] Hearing on MassHealth estate recovery

Act-ma:

Tuesday, April 10, the Massachusetts Legislature Joint Committee on 
Health Care Financing will hold a public hearing on Bill #H3965 at the 
State House, Room B-1, from 11 -12 noon.

The bill seeks to repeal provisions in MassHealth which enable the state 
of Massachusetts to recover the cost of providing health care coverage 
to low income people by taking whatever money or property they may have 
left after they die. Estate recovery is one means among many by which 
wealth in the US is being transferred from the poor to the rich -- in 
this  case, to state bureaucracies and the insurance industry. The 
MassHealth estate recovery provisions are grossly unfair and need to be 
repealed.

Similar estate recovery provisions have been repealed in several other 
states. It is time for Massachusetts to do the same. If you're 
interested in this issue, the hearing is open to the public.
