Saturday radio: fast-action politics amid the regular global & local crises
Live:
- Healthcare Hitman
- Compulsory Payments to the Insurance Industry
- Crime, Punishment & Vengeance in the Age of Mass Imprisonment
Saturday, May 12, 11 am - 1 pm on 90.3 FM in Greater Boston (stream link below)
- Whistleblower on the big pharmaceutical industry, Peter Rost, M.D., tells his
"Confessions of a Healthcare Hitman." He was the world's largest drug company's
(Pfizer) vice president of marketing. How corrupt is the drug industry? A
doctor employed to market drugs to patients and doctors tells us.
BioTech Industry conference? They're just a small segment of the pharmaceutical
industry. Not a science conference, at last week's Boston BIO convention your
elected politicians competed to throw money at corporate executives & owners.
Will private investors pony up more for the financially failing biotech
industry? Not without someone sweetening the pot. Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick
proffered $1 Billion of your public budget. And will your legislator authorize
this? Where are the corporate libertarians demanding "the nanny state" stay out
of business? Will the next President pledge to "end [corporate] welfare as we
know it"? If the public (government) subsidizes research for private
corporations, should the public share the profits? Not according to the current
standard practice. Only private companies take the profits.
- Why are you forced to purchase health insurance?
Who's pushing that product on tee-vee? And why are you required by law to
purchase it this year? What the heck is a "single payer" and how could it care
for you better than the new Mass. scheme that health insurance corporations are
pushing. Is the new law, Chapter 58, the Massachusetts miracle, or myth? If the
nation looks to liberal Mass. as an example of health policy, would Mass.
residents alert the nation to its failures?
Sandy Eaton, R.N., join us. He fought for the healthcare system the rest of the
rich countries have, but the U.S. does not. As a staff nurse at Quincy Medical
Center, active in the Mass. Nurses Assoc., having worked at the bedside in the
Massachusetts healthcare industry for over four decades, Sandy also believes in
MASS-CARE, the Massachusetts Campaign for Single Payer Health Care.
- Reporter Sasha Abramsky tells of "American Furies: Crime, Punishment, and
Vengeance in the Age of Mass Imprisonment." Should you know about the
warehousing model of incarceration? The U.S.A. surpassed Russia as #1--with the
biggest proportion of residents in prisons in the world. Who are the big
corporations behind this big incarceration trend?
- All happening live Saturday, 11 a.m. - 1 pm. EDT
