JESSE MERMELL
"You Can't Judge Learning with a Standardized Test"
The National Center for Fair & Open Testing (FairTest) advances quality
education and equal opportunity by promoting fair, open, valid and
educationally beneficial evaluations of students, teachers and schools. They
also work to prevent the misuses of testing practices that impede those
goals. FairTest places special emphasis on eliminating the racial, class,
gender & cultural barriers to equal opportunity posed by standardized tests
and preventing their damage to the quality of education.
Jesse Mermell is executive director of FairTest and former executive
director of the Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus (MWPC), a non-profit,
non-partisan organization founded to increase the number of women in elected
and appointed position in Mass. It provides hands-on assistance to women who
are at the forefront of Mass politics; during Mermell's tenure,
MWPC-endorsed candidates for elective office enjoyed a win rate of over 90%!
An activist in the Mass Democratic Party, she is a member the Brookline
Board of Selectmen and the board of directors of the Planned Parenthood
League of Mass Advocacy Fund.

child at any time during the year. We invited you to visit the Justice
School one Sunday to see what it's about, or go to www.thejusticeschool.org
for more details.
