Hi,

Bikes Not Bombs has an event coming up that we hope you would be able
to place in your calendar listing. The details and the description is
below. Further down is a shorter description of the event.

Bikes Not Bombs Presents: Bill McKibben
Activist, Environmentalist, Best-Selling Author
Thursday, May 28th 7:00 - 8:30 PM
English High School Auditorium
Contact: Jasmine Laietmark 617-522-0222 x106

BNB Bike-A-Thon Riders: $5 All Others, Sliding Scale: $7 - $20

McKibben's first book, The End of Nature, was published in 1989. He
has written eleven books since, covering both the seriousness of
global warming and the growing movement to change the conditions that
create it, including Hope, Human and Wild, Deep Economy, Fight Global
Warming Now, and many, many articles in Atlantic Monthly, the New York
Times, Mother Jones, and other great publications.

McKibben is one of the most important voices helping to inform and
catalyze the local and international movement for environmental
sustainability. A resident scholar at Middlebury College, he is an
activist beyond his writing. He organized the Step It Up 2007 campaign
(described as the largest day of protest about climate change in the
nation's history), has pressured US administrations to attend
international climate talks, and is a founder and key activist with
the 350 Campaign. McKibben's presentations and writings challenge the
fundamentals of current economic thinking, which hold as a sacred cow
the mantra of "perpetual economic growth". McKibben undeniably makes a
case for a paradigm shift wherein our prosperity need not be at odds
with our environment.

This event is co-sponsored by the JP Forum.

For 25 years, Bikes Not Bombs has been a nexus of bike recycling and
community empowerment both in lower-income neighborhoods of Boston and
in the nations of the Global South. BNB's programs involve young
people and adults in mutually respectful leadership development and
environmental stewardship, while recycling thousands of bicycles.
