Dear Friend,
The Socialist Workers Party campaign of William Leonard for mayor of Boston and Laura Garza for city council district 1 is off and running!
In response to the deepening economic depression, the attacks on the standard of living and democratic rights of workers and farmers, and the continuing wars in Iraq , Afghanistan and Pakistan , the Socialist Workers candidates say that “The working class needs to take political power!”
Garza and Leonard have taken that message to meetings protesting the recent attempt by the Boston School Committee to further segregate the Boston schools.  The socialist candidates marched in the Puerto Rican Day and Dominican Day parades carrying banners demanding “US Troops Out of Iraq, Afghanistan , and Pakistan Now!”, “ Independence for Puerto Rico ,” “End the Embargo Against Cuba,” “Stop the Raids and Deportations! Legalization Now!” They have also campaigned over the summer at U Mass Boston and Boston University .  The campaign  reached out to help build the August 28-29 mobilization to defend the clinic of Dr. Leroy Carhart in Bellevue , NE , and to defend a woman’s right to choose abortion.
You can help the Socialist Workers campaign -- organize a meeting for the candidates, distribute flyers, or make a financial contribution.
Campaign supporters will be hosting a Labor Day weekend BBQ.  It will be held at 1:00 on Sunday, September 6, at 86 Orient Avenue , in East Boston .  We hope to see you Sunday for food, music, and a chance to have discussions with Leonard and Garza.  If you cannot attend but would like to make a contribution, send your donation to Socialist Workers Campaign, 13 Bennington St., 2nd Fl., East Boston, MA, 02128.  Your contribution of $20, $50, or any amount is appreciated. Checks can be made out to “Mass. Socialist Workers PAC.”
            Thank you for your support.

                                                                                    In Solidarity,
                                                                                    Kevin Dwire
