Title Associate Director of Strategic Philanthropy - full-time position
Overview Associate Director of Strategic Philanthropy works with the Executive Director and the Director of Development and Communications (DDC) to recruit, develop, solicit and coordinate major individual contributors.
The ADSP has specific responsibilities as detailed below. The ADSP may also be called upon from time to time to perform other duties as directed by the ED or DDC.

Through grant-making, education and advocacy, we support the initiatives of peasants and family farmers, women and indigenous groups to protect human rights to land, water and food.
Currently, we support community-led development, human rights and movement building in Latin America, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. We also work with activists, allies and donors in the United States to support the movement and to advocate for U.S. policies that will build a more just world for all.
As Grassroots International works to redouble its effort to effect positive, powerful social change and justice, we are actively seeking an Associate Director of Strategic Philanthropy to take our major gifts program to the next level.
Grassroots International is seeking a full-time staff member with high level and proven skills in building philanthropic partnerships with individual donors to advance mission, vision, and values.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
* Work in partnership with the Executive Director and Development team to create and implement a major donor fund raising plan which is diverse and consistent with the annual budgetary needs of the organization, as well as anticipatory fund raising for mission sustainability.
* Develop and oversee planned giving programs.
* Establish, support and work with Donor Circles, and coordinate special fund raising events or donor delegations.
* Maintain a major donor portfolio of 10-12 donors in the $5,000-$50,000 and above range.
* Prospect and cultivate donors at the $100,000 - $1 million level as part of the development team.
* Create new strategies to fully leverage the support of Grassroots International donors and prospects, creating the conditions for donors to make multi-year, capacity gifts.
* Provide a framework for and understanding of trends in giving and philanthropy to help inform the growth and success of Grassroots' fundraising programs.
Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills and Capacity
1. A commitment to the mission of Grassroots International.
2. Candidates must possess a proven track record in successful Major Gift fundraising and possess the ability to develop these skills in working with Board members and other staff.
3. Success in cultivating, soliciting and closing high-end gifts.
4. The ability to work as part of a team in a mission driven organization and be an effective supervisor, including a high level of self-organization with close attention to detail.
5. The capacity for the flexibility and resourcefulness needed to effectively operate within a small non profit organization.
6. Demonstrated understanding and the ability to communicate understanding of program matters central to the GRI mission to external audiences; including geopolitical issues and development and human rights challenges.
7. Excellent communication skills including the capacity to write clear and compelling development and communications material and speak publicly on program themes.
8. Must be open to regional and local travel, including some evening, weekend and occasional national or international travel.
9. Proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, French or Arabic a plus, but not required.
