THE COMMUNITY CHURCH OF BOSTON
SUNDAY SPEAKERS FORUM presents...
Sunday, January 30, 2011
11:00am
GEORGE LEE
"Youth Violence in Boston: Organizing for Survival"
George Lee is a youth worker and community organizer in Boston. He supports
youth who are deeply impacted by oppression -- poverty, prisons, broken
schools, and violence -- through outreach work, leadership development, and
campaigns to change policy and build community power. George does outreach
work in Mission Hill, Dudley Square, and Jamaica Plain, and he has been
involved in programs and coalitions to advocate for youth power and
resources for young people.
George will discuss the root causes of violence -- including poverty and
additional forms of oppression -- and how they play out in the real,
everyday lives of young people. He will describe how systems and power
brokers have turned their backs on young people, and he will share ways that
adult allies can support the struggles of young people to survive and
organize.
