Just as
Freedom Riders challenged Jim Crow fifty years ago,
on September 1, to commemorate Labor Day, temporary workers and their
supporters will ride to end oppressive labor conditions.
Join the caravan
riding the Road to Temp Worker Justice, experiencing what a temp worker
goes through every day and culminating at the site of a disreputable temp
agency.
Temp workers will share stories
about the real road they ride each day-
and theatrical presentations will be offered along the way.
10:00 Convene at Central
Square Park in East Boston, near a common temp worker pick up site
Watch a theatrical performance and hear temp worker testimonials
10:30 “Riders” will enter the Temp Worker Justice bus, cars
or vans & caravan to S Boston.
(email Marcy.gelb at masscosh.org to reserve a space on
the bus; first come, first served).
11:00 Rally & Press Conference
in S Boston, Ironworkers Local 7 Hall, 195 Old Colony
Ave
After the press conference,
a delegation will deliver a letter to management
demanding changes to their practices.
Organized by the REAL Coalition. The REAL Coalition (Reform Employment
Agency Law), comprised of temporary workers and labor, community and
faith supporters seeks justice for temporary workers. We urge temporary
agencies to abide by basic labor standards and legislators to reform the
state’s out of date employment agency laws with the passage of House Bill 1393.
